Base pay range$40.30/hr - $60.45/hr
OverviewInterprets physician referrals, as appropriate, and completes musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and/or integumentary evaluations utilizing appropriate methods.
Responsibilities- Establishes a plan of care and implements individual treatment based on evaluation results and functional goals; utilizes appropriate techniques.
- Monitors and evaluates outcomes; adjusts the treatment plan based on patient response; provides status updates to physicians and teammates; addresses factors affecting patient comfort.
- Plans for and completes patient discharge including written home programs, patient/family teaching, referrals for community services, transition planning, and ordering equipment as indicated.
- Communicates and collaborates with stakeholders to achieve optimum patient care.
- Completes required documentation per department policy and accreditation standards with appropriate co-signatures, including evaluations, progress notes, reports, and discharge summaries; records patient care and progress; completes daily statistics, billing, and scheduling; applies insurance guidelines regarding authorization and number of visits; maintains productivity standards.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area; performs manual techniques, patient positioning, transferring, and transporting tasks; uses modalities and equipment per department orientation; understands indications/contraindications of modalities and exercises; promotes patient safety and follows safety and infection control measures.
- Participates in performance improvement activities to improve patient care outcomes and quality of care; manages caseload and coordinates coverage as needed.
- Participates in continuing education, departmental in-services, and literature review; orients new staff to policies; contributes to coworker evaluations as requested.
- May supervise physical therapy assistants and extenders according to state and local requirements; delegating, giving treatment recommendations, and supervising while maintaining responsibility for patient care goals; may supervise students after prior clinical experience.
Job Requirements
- Education — Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited school or equivalent; maintains continuing education requirements as mandated by state standards.
- Certification / Registration / License — Physical Therapy License in Illinois or Wisconsin;
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (AHA) obtained within 90 days unless exempted by department leader. - Work Experience — No experience required.
- Knowledge / Skills / Abilities — Intermediate computer skills; excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills; strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities; completion of competency assessments; annual educational requirements for hospital certifications; ability to care for patients across age ranges with appropriate growth and development knowledge.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, and squat throughout the workday.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist; lift up to 10 lbs from waist to overhead; lift and carry up to 40 lbs at waist height a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs of force; perform sliding transfers with assistance.
- Repetitive hand use: simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation for massage and joint mobilization; necessary sensory capabilities for effective communication.
- Exposure to electrical/chemical hazards and risk of blood/fluids; may require protective clothing; may involve travel with road/weather exposure.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
