To facilitate culturally and linguistically competent communication between individuals with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and medical providers in a manner that promotes patient safety and confidentiality. Other duties as assigned. The position requires travel to various clinics, including but not limited to the Northeast Region such as Holy Family Hospital, Harbor Town clinic and Sheboygan.

A minimum of 1 year of experience in providing medical interpreting in English and the target language is required. A minimum of 3 years of directly related experience is preferred.

High School diploma or equivalent is required. Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree in a related field is preferred. Professional Medical Interpreter Program is preferred. Experience at a Level I Trauma Center is preferred.

• Must be bilingual in English and Hmong.
• Solid knowledge of medical terminology and competence in communicating the meaning of terms.
• Strong ability to interpret diagnostic processes, treatments, procedures, preventive care, and be culturally competent.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, families and health care providers.
• Ability to perform under stressful situations and medical emergencies.
• Ability to produce written translation of material, such as forms, documents, patient letters and other material.

CCHI or NBCMI Certification is preferred.

Travel between locations in the Northeast Region during shift is required.

Formal interpreter training. 40 hour medical interpretation training program.
