Overview
The City of Mankato Public Safety is recruiting police officers. Candidates should have strong critical thinking, effective communication, and a dedication to community policing. Both entry‑level and lateral entry candidates are welcomed.
Key Qualifications- Associate’s Degree in Police Science, Law Enforcement, or Criminal Justice from an accredited institution.
- Licensed by the Minnesota Police Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) Board or eligible to be licensed by September 15 2026.
- Valid driver’s license in the state of Minnesota.
- Must meet all MN P.O.S.T. Board standards of conduct and pass required background, physical, psychological, and drug tests.
- Conduct proactive patrols, respond to calls, and enforce state and local laws.
- Perform law‑enforcement investigations, prepare crime reports, and assist prosecutors.
- Promote community policing philosophy, build positive relations with citizens and businesses, and represent the City at community functions.
- Respond to and secure crime scenes, direct other units, obtain and secure evidence, and testify in court as required.
- Entry wage and step schedule with automatic progression upon FTO completion.
- Wellness and growth benefits including peer support, health resiliency programs, and on‑site fitness facilities.
- Variety of 10‑ to 12‑hour workdays with opportunities for specialist units (Detective, Tactical Response Team, Training Officer, etc.).
- Must reside within 60 minutes of the Public Safety Center and maintain a U.S. citizen or eligible work status.
- Must maintain all medical, psychological, EMR, and safety‑sensitive training and testing standards.
- Must comply with all organizational, departmental, safety, and data‑privacy policies.
