We are a busy, patient-focused GP surgery committed to delivering high-quality care to our community. As our team continues to grow, we have an exciting new opportunity to tailor a new role within the practice. We are seeking a proactive and highly organised HR Support Manager to oversee day-to-day HR operations and ensure our staff feel supported, informed and valued.

Applicants offering full time hours are preferable. However candidates wanting between 22.5-37.5 hours per week will also be considered.

Main duties of the job

The HR Support Manager will play a key role in supporting the Practice Manager with the effective running of the surgerys HR function. This is a varied and rewarding role, covering recruitment, onboarding, staff development, HR compliance, wellbeing, and general people management support across the practice team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Practice Manager with all HR administration and operational HR activities.
  • Coordinate recruitment processes, including job adverts, shortlisting, interviews and pre-employment checks.
  • Manage staff onboarding, inductions, training records and ongoing development plans.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, supporting payroll administration and ensuring HR systems are up to date.
  • Provide first-line HR advice to staff and line managers in line with practice policies and employment law.
  • Monitor staff rotas, leave, sickness and performance, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Support with absence management, appraisals, disciplinary procedures and grievance processes.
  • Ensure compliance with CQC, employment legislation and safeguarding requirements.
  • Promote a positive workplace culture, staff wellbeing initiatives and effective internal communication.
  • Assist the Practice Manager with HR reporting, workforce planning and improvement projects.
About us

Oakwood Surgery is a busy training practice, rated 'good' at our last CQC inspection, split over two sites.

Our team is made up of:

  • 5 GP Partners
  • 7 Nurses/HCA's
  • 1 Practice Manager
  • 12 Other administrative staff including leadership team

We also work collaboratively with a team of pharmacists, FCP's and paramedics to provide a multi-disciplinary service to our 16,000 patients.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary:

Support the Practice Manager in leading the smooth, efficient, and profitable running of the practice.

Ensure compliance for CQC purposes, working with the management team to implement policies, procedures, and maintain required standards.

Support the Practice Manager and Quality Service Supervisor in the effective handling of complaints.

Support the Practice Manager in delivering HR requirements for employees and those representing or working in collaboration with Oakwood Surgery.

Support the Quality Service Supervisor in reporting and recording of significant events.

In co-ordination with the technical support manager, steps up to take a lead in providing support for the surgery in the absence of the practice manager, including holiday and sickness absence.

Undertake any other reasonable duties to support the Practice Manager to ensure the smooth running of the practice.

Personnel and Training

Work with the Practice Manager and wider leadership team to deliver the below HR tasks for Oakwood employees and those working in collaboration with Oakwood Surgery where appropriate:
