- Perform moderately complex, routine landscape maintenance and repair work on a regularly scheduled basis without direct supervision.
- Operate various types of equipment including mower, string-trimmer, blower, etc.
- Occasionally operate a tractor, dump truck or other light equipment.
- Assist other landscape technicians in the daily execution of assignments.
- Mowing, string-trimming, edging, picking up trash and debris.
- Cut grass using a push mower, tractor mower, or power trimmer.
- Cleaning restrooms.
- Plant and cultivate trees, shrubs, turf, and flowering plants.
- Load and unload materials and equipment.
- Tamp, pack, and level dirt, asphalt, or other material.
- Trim trees, pick up brush, and load brush onto a truck.
- Perform light mechanical maintenance and construction duties to include vehicle/equipment maintenance, plumbing and irrigation maintenance, and concrete installation.
- Participate in rotating weekend trash duties.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.

REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Extensive knowledge or training of the methods, tools, and equipment of landscape maintenance.
- Working knowledge of materials including plant materials, soil amendments, irrigation, fertilizers and pesticides.
- Ability to analyze problems and plan solutions.
- Ability to maintain records on materials needed and used.
- Ability to operate mower, line trimmer, edger, chainsaw, spreader, blower, trencher, shovel, rake, spade, pruning tools and other tools used in landscape maintenance.
- Ability to work inside and outside, exposure to varying weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, temperature swings, rain, etc.), exposure to the sun, exposure to moving objects, operating assigned vehicles, movement on uneven terrain and wooded areas, and occasional irregular work hours including weekend, holiday, and evening hours, as required.
- Ability to bend, stoop, walk through brush or entangled areas.
- Carry, hold, lift, pull, and push (50 lbs.); clean, climb, crawl, kneel, sit, squat, stoop, twist, and walk in performing duties.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND
EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Texas operator’s license.
DESIRED TRAINING AND
EXPERIENCE:
- Additional training or experience in related field.
- Licensed Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) pesticide applicator’s license.
- Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI).
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO).

- Climbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
- Balancing. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.
- Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
- Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
- Crawling. Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
- Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another, or walk through brush or entangled areas.
- Pushing. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
- Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
- Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
