Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor with client-side expertise in social housing to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing commercial and contractual management across a portfolio of housing projects, ensuring value for money, robust cost control, and compliance with regulatory and funding requirements.
You will act as the commercial lead from project inception through to completion, working closely with internal stakeholders, consultants, and contractors to deliver high-quality, cost-effective housing outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Provide full commercial and cost management services on social housing projects from feasibility to final account
- Prepare and manage budgets, cost plans, and cash flow forecasts
- Procure and manage consultants and contractors in line with organisational and public sector procurement frameworks
- Assess contractor applications for payment and manage variations and change control
- Monitor project costs and risks, producing regular financial reports for senior stakeholders
- Lead on contract administration and commercial compliance
- Support value engineering and ensure best value is achieved across projects
- Manage final accounts and project close-out procedures
- Ensure projects align with funding requirements, regulatory standards, and internal governance
- Work collaboratively with development, asset management, and technical teams
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- Proven experience working in a client-side role
- Strong background in social housing, affordable housing, or public sector construction
- Sound knowledge of construction contracts (e.g. JCT, NEC)
- Experience managing budgets and commercial risk on multiple projects
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Strong analytical and reporting capabilities
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
- MRICS or working towards chartership
- Experience working within a housing association, local authority, or public sector body
- Knowledge of grant-funded projects and funding compliance
- Experience with framework agreements and partnering contracts
