Facilities Assistant - Porter

We are looking for a motivated individual to join our Facilities Services Team as a Porter/Facilities Assistant at John Eastwood Hospice, who are responsible for all patient and non‑patient areas. This role also includes serving food to patients at meal times.

Previous experience of working within a domestic, cleaning, catering environment is desirable but not essential as full training will be given.

Main duties

The vacancy is a 20‑hour post, working Monday to Friday only 13:30‑17:30. The position is not required to work on weekends and bank holidays, but there may be occasions where shifts are needed on these days. Flexibility, teamwork, and maintaining a high standard of work are essential.

We provide in‑house training to support your personal development.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. The cost (£26.40 standard or £54.40 enhanced) will be deducted from salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Job responsibilities

This post does not meet the pay level required for a Skilled‑Worker visa.

Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. This salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled‑Worker/Health & Care visa.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • An understanding of cleanliness and good hygiene practices.
  • Understanding of routine work procedures developed through on‑the‑job training/experience.
  • Level 2 Food Safety Certificate or to work towards within 12 months of employment (site specific).
  • Recognised catering, cleaning or support services qualification.
Training
  • Ability to undertake mandatory training as required by the individual site.
  • Ability to undertake any necessary skills and competency training required by the post.
Experience
  • Ability to carry out instructions and duties as detailed in the job description.
  • Experience working within a catering, portering or cleaning environment.
  • Experience with in a healthcare environment including catering, cleaning or portering functions.
  • Experience of working within a food safety management system (HACCP).
Knowledge
