Position SummaryThis role provides direct clinical patient care. The nurse will assess, plan, implement direct clinical care for assigned patients on a per‑shift basis, supervise staff to whom appropriate care is delegated, and support the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to ensure high‑quality, safe, and appropriate nursing care, staff competency, and resource management.
Responsibilities- Functions as a Staff Nurse role model with superior performance in all areas of practice, including acting as a resource for ED staff and ancillary departments.
- Demonstrates effective delegation skills, including daily staff assignments such as crash cart management, accudata maintenance, discharge phone calls, and other departmental functions.
- Maintains clear/open communication with the nursing supervisor regarding ED patients and staffing needs, including patient discharges, dietary requirements, break relief for staff, and additional help for pending procedures or 1:1 patients.
- Takes an active role in the socialization and orientation of new staff members to the hospital and ED.
- Maintains effective working relationships with peers, department directors, nursing supervisors, and all other hospital departments, including laboratory and imaging services.
- Evaluates and provides feedback on employee performance.
- Exemplifies superior customer‑service skills with all customers (patients, families, physicians, peers, and other hospital staff), responding to all concerns and utilizing the chain of command when appropriate.
- Provides verbal and written feedback to the department director on any employee, patient, or other concerns that affect smooth operation of the department, including exceptional practice by individual staff.
- Rounds on all patients several times per shift to ensure patients and/or families are updated on care, taking proactive steps as necessary to ensure optimal care and customer service.
- Provides a report to the on‑coming charge nurse, highlighting issues and providing information necessary to ensure a smooth transition of care.
- Ensures all staff introduce the on‑coming staff RN to the patient/family with the name and date written on the information board.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Academic degree in nursing (Bachelor’s or Master’s) – preferred.
- Must be currently licensed, certified, or registered to practice as required by law or regulation in the state of practice. CPR certification required.
