Quality Control Floor Inspector – 3rd Shift (10:00 PM – 6:30 AM)
General Summary
This hourly position in Manteno, IL reports to the QC Supervisor. The QC Inspector conducts line clearance, routine analysis of raw materials, in‑process and finished products using various testing devices and procedures to maintain product quality. Ensures all quality‑compliance documents are preserved for product traceability and audits, and adheres to SOPs, reporting non‑compliance promptly to prevent spoilage.
- Conduct line inspections prior to start‑up, verifying compliance with the line‑clearance worksheet.
- Perform swab and allergen tests as per established procedures, documenting and communicating results to production.
- Inspect GMP compliance and in‑line processes, recording results in Safety Chain.
- Run metal detector tests (Fe, non‑Fe, SS) every 2 hours on all running lines, recording results in the Metal Detector Check form.
- Compare analysis results to specifications, informing the QC Supervisor of non‑compliance.
- Confirm compliance with labeling, packaging, code dating, and customer‑specific requirements.
- Conduct analytical tests (TA, TS, pH, leakers, viscosity, moisture, net weight) on raw materials or finished products.
- Apply “MRB‑HOLD” tags to non‑compliant products while on the production floor and record actions in the MRB log.
- Collect and store retention samples for traceability or customer complaints.
- Verify that mixed‑deck raw materials are not expired or left unrefrigerated beyond 45 °F.
- Prepare incident reports for SOP violations.
- Validate shelf‑life of retained products and investigate customer defect claims.
- Collect samples for microbiological and environmental testing per the sampling scheme.
- Inspect incoming raw materials per QC protocol, reporting non‑compliance to complete SCAR.
- Document QCP & CCP test results in Safety Chain and confirm specification compliance.
- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of the laboratory.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High‑school graduate with coursework in science (food science, chemistry, microbiology, etc.) or equivalent work experience is an advantage.
- Competence in mathematics, calculations, and computer skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize non‑conformance to SOP.
- Excellent organizational skills with meticulous reporting.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate with other departments in a production environment.
- Knowledge of manufacturing environments and practices.
- Business acumen.
