Position: ESP - Special Education (Autism (Connect) Program) - HQ

Job Summary

Children with autism are impaired in their ability to communicate with others and have great difficulty organizing and understanding their environment. Assist the special education teacher in the operation and function of the classroom, working with individuals or small groups of students under the supervision of the special education teacher.

Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Assist in the implementation of students’ special education instructional plans, including physical and behavioral management.
  • Assist in implementing and following through on students’ individual plans in all settings where the program is delivered.
  • Collect observational data about assigned students in various school settings and report to the supervising teacher.
  • Assist in preparation, collection, and maintenance of educational materials and equipment.
  • Assist with staffings, conferences, and special meetings as requested.
  • Complete educational forms, reports, and other student‑related data relevant to the individual students in the special education program.
  • Perform any duties deemed necessary by the team and approved by the Special Education Coordinator/Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students.
  • Computer and word processing experience helpful.
  • Must be highly qualified (HQ) within 30 days from the date of employment.
  • Physical capability to lift and attend to students’ physical needs.
  • Participation in district training program prior to and during employment.
  • Applicants can meet the Highly Qualified requirement if they have:
    • Two years of study at a higher education institution (minimum 60 semester credits, or the amount required to complete two years of full‑time enrollment).
    • An Associate’s degree or higher (AA, AS, AAS or higher).
    • Received a passing score on the Para Pro Assessment.
  • District will pay for the exam and up to 10 hours of prep and exam time.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Skills needed to perform tasks and work with children, staff, and parents.
  • Physical capability to lift and attend to students’ physical needs.
  • Participation in district training program prior to and during employment.
Salary and Schedule

View Classification II (2) salary grid on page 4, section 1, and classification, page 5, section 2 on Educational Support Professional contract.

Work schedule:

6 hours/day; 5 days/week.
