Special Needs / Learning Disabilities, School Counselor
Job summary: To inspire and prepare each scholar with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning by supporting students and assisting the special education teacher in classroom operations. Work with individual or small groups of students as assigned.
Responsibilities and tasks include:
- Assisting special education students with daily activities including academic, social, motor, and/or functional tasks;
- Observing, collecting, documenting, and reporting data as requested;
- Carrying out the special education needs, goals, and objectives of students as communicated by the special education teacher; and
- Participating in IEP conferences as requested.
Additional responsibilities include ensuring student safety, operating adaptive equipment, supporting behavioral needs, maintaining confidentiality, and participating in team meetings and training. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, skills to work with children, and physical capability to attend to students' needs. Knowledge and skills involve working with children, effective communication, collaboration, behavior management, and proficiency in computer software. Salary details are on the district's classification grid, with a work schedule of 6 hours/day, 5 days/week, part-time during the school year, starting September 2, 2025.
