About the Role

We have a new engineering opportunity in WATCHMAN within Boston Scientific’s Cardiology Group. WATCHMAN continues to be an exciting growth driver for BSC. As our organization grows, we are expanding our engineering team to meet increasing demand. In this role, you will demonstrate a blend of technical knowledge, leadership, and project management to drive innovative solutions. You will be playing an important technical role in developing next‑generation or novel products so BSC can deliver life‑changing medical devices to patients and clinicians in support of BSC’s mission.

At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be in our Maple Grove, MN office at least 4‑5 days per week.

Responsibilities
  • Design, development and integration of next generation technology to meet customer and market demands in rapidly growing and evolving LAAC marketplace.
  • Creative problem solving and ideation, submission of IP disclosures.
  • Prototyping and development of concept ideas, processes and tests.
  • Material characterization testing and analysis.
  • Test method development for novel product testing.
  • Apply scientific and engineering principles to manage and support decision making around key technical issues for the overall system and technical work streams.
  • Leverage internal/external partners as necessary to achieve project objectives.
  • Provide clear communication to stakeholders and team members at technical updates.
  • Understand clinical use cases and user interface requirements to support design decisions.
  • Work cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing on complex projects.
  • Provide work direction to technicians, and other engineers.
  • Document development and analysis by writing documents, reports, memos, change requests.
  • Solve engineering problems by analyzing the situation and recommend solutions or alternative actions.
  • In all actions, demonstrate a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to all documented quality processes and procedures.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
Required Qualifications
  • BS degree or more from an accredited school in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related field.
  • 4+ years of engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree OR 3+ years with Master's Degree.
  • New product development experience in implants or cardiovascular products.
  • Experience in medical device polymers and/or biomaterials.
  • Experience in analytical chemistry testing and data interpretation.
  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs.
  • Experience being a self‑starter with a hands‑on approach.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to provide technical insights as it relates to product design and leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in exploratory or early phase product development.
  • Experience in adhesives, material coatings, and coating techniques.
  • Experience in managing and supporting technical trade‑off decisions to optimize design, performance, usability, manufacturability, cost‑efficiency and reliability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, judgment, decision‑making, and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience in medical device Product Development Planning (PDP) lifecycle process environment.
  • Ability to exercise a solution focused and flexible mindset.
  • Experience interacting with physicians and customers on product design.
  • Experience in the LAAO or AFib business.
