The ideal candidate has hands-on experience designing industrial machinery, automated equipment, OEM capital equipment, or other complex mechanical systems and is comfortable taking designs from concept through manufacturing, assembly, testing, and final implementation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical systems, assemblies, components, and structures for industrial machinery.
  • Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Develop machine designs from initial concepts through detailed design, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and release.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analysis to validate mechanical designs, component selection, loads, tolerances, and performance.
  • Select appropriate materials, bearings, motors, gearboxes, drives, fasteners, fabricated components, and other mechanical components.
  • Design fabricated and machined components with consideration for manufacturability, cost, quality, and ease of assembly.
  • Apply appropriate GD&T, tolerancing, fits, and engineering standards to drawings and designs.
  • Review customer specifications and translate requirements into practical machine designs and engineering solutions.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and assembly personnel to resolve design, fit, fabrication, and installation issues.
  • Provide hands-on engineering support during machine assembly, testing, debugging, and validation.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems and develop effective corrective solutions.
  • Evaluate existing machine designs and recommend improvements related to performance, reliability, safety, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Create and process engineering changes and maintain accurate engineering documentation.
  • Collaborate with electrical and controls engineering to ensure proper integration of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems.
  • Support Sales, Service, Purchasing, and Production with technical questions and engineering-related issues.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement and product development initiatives.
  • Perform other engineering duties and projects assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing, machinery, automation, or industrial equipment environment.
  • Proficiency with Solid Works 3D CAD software, including creation of detailed manufacturing drawings.
  • Experience designing mechanical assemblies, fabricated components, and machined parts.
