Suite Living Hospice Care provides compassionate end-of-life care within Suite Living Senior Care communities across the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro. We are currently seeking a dedicated, empathetic Hospice Aide (CNA) to join our interdisciplinary hospice team. Position SummaryThe Hospice Aide is a paraprofessional member of the hospice care team who works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role supports our patients by providing personal care, promoting comfort, and ensuring a safe, respectful environment. The Hospice Aide is responsible for observing and documenting patient status, reporting changes, and delivering care that emphasizes compassion, quality, and continuity.
Key ResponsibilitiesDirect Patient Care
- Provide personal care based on assigned patient needs (bathing, grooming, oral care, skin care, toileting, dressing/undressing, etc.).
- Assist with mobility, transfers, exercise, ambulation, and range-of-motion activities as instructed by nursing/therapy staff.
- Provide feeding assistance and prepare simple, nutritious meals as assigned.
- Offer assistance with self-administered medications per Minnesota regulations (e.g., reminders).
- Maintain clean, safe, and orderly patient living areas.
- Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure) when ordered and within competency.
- Observe and report changes in patient condition to the Case Manager promptly.
- Monitor skin integrity and take steps to prevent breakdown.
- Document all care provided according to agency standards.
- Use positive, respectful communication techniques with patients and families while maintaining confidentiality.
- Provide short-term respite care for caregivers as appropriate.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to patient and family dynamics and maintain professionalism in all interactions.
- Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
- Participate in quality assessment and performance improvement activities.
- Adhere strictly to hospice regulations and scope-of-practice limitations (e.g., no medication administration, no sterile procedures, no nursing functions per the Nurse Practice Act).
- Active CNA certification in Minnesota.
- Prior hospice, home health, or geriatric care experience preferred; strong understanding of hospice philosophy required.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; comfortable supporting patients at end of life.
- Demonstrates empathy, patience, professionalism, and excellent personal hygiene.
- Current CPR certification.
- Valid driver's license and insured, reliable transportation.
- Satisfactory references and successful completion of probationary/competency review.
- Emotionally resilient, calm under pressure, and respectful of patient and family needs.
