The Controller is a senior-level finance leader responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls across the organization. This role requires deep expertise in residential construction accounting, including job costing, WIP, margin analysis, and more.

- Proven experience as a Controller or Senior Accounting Manager
- Direct experience in residential construction and/or land development accounting
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, and construction margin analysis
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a team.
- Ability to prioritize, work amidst interruptions, and solve problems creatively.
- Forward-thinking, team player with confidence.
- Ability to optimize processes and identify areas of improvement
- Experience working at a medium sized to large sized home builder
- CPA or CMA designation
- Experience in multi-entity or multi-company environments
- Experience supporting rapid growth or scaling organizations
- Familiarity with construction management and accounting software
- Own and oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, AP/AR, banking relationships, and month-end close
- Lead and develop the accounting team with clear expectations and accountability
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and Shinn Consulting Methodology
- Make sure our financials are accurate, timely, and something leadership can rely on
- Establish and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Work closely with Construction, Purchasing, and Operations to align financial controls with field execution
- Ensure cost codes, budgets, and contracts are structured for accurate reporting
- Support purchasing and vendor processes to maintain cost discipline
- Manage the day-to-day relationship with our banks in partnership with the Owner/President
- Be the primary point of contact for borrowing base reporting, draws, and lender requests
- Prepare and submit borrowing base certificates that tie out cleanly to our books
- Make sure AR, inventory, WIP, and payables are accurately reflected in lender reporting
- Forecast cash needs based on starts, closings, and upcoming draws
- Lead budgeting and forecasting and help leadership understand what’s driving the numbers
- Support decisions around pricing, land deals, and growth with solid financial analysis
- Own job cost accounting across all residential projects
- Track margins by job, community, and product type, and call out issues early
- Help identify where margin is drifting and work with leadership to address it before it becomes a bigger problem
- Coordinate with external CPAs, auditors, and tax advisors
- Prepare schedules and support for audits and tax filings
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements
- Help support our entity structure and intercompany accounting as the business evolves
- Financials are accurate, timely, and trusted by leadership
