Performs general horticultural maintenance activities on gardens, and other green spaces, including planting, weeding, and mulching of flower beds, shrubs, and trees.
Duties/Responsibilities- Maintains turf areas using hand tools, power equipment, and riding mowers.
- Performs pruning and deadheading of shrubs, perennials, and annuals to promote healthy growth and maintain aesthetic standards.
- Uses and maintains hand tools, small equipment, and utility vehicles such as pick-ups and power trimmers.
- Works outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, rain, and wind, adhering to Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Operates tools and equipment safely and responsibly, following training and municipal guidelines.
- Lifts and carries tools, plants, and materials weighing up to 20 kg. Pushes and pulls carts, hoses, and other equipment weighing up to 50 kg (with assistance over 22 kg).
- Participates in training and team meetings to enhance horticultural skills and ensure alignment with municipal objectives.
- Work involves frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching, often on uneven ground.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of horticulture maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, standards, regulations and legislation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions including heat and rain.
- Communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with coworkers and residents as required.
- Must have a valid G driver's license (or G2 with 3 years of driving experience) and acceptable driving record to operate corporate vehicles.
- Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
To be considered for employment as a student, a person must be: registered as a full-time secondary or post-secondary student in an accredited institution, or currently recognized as having full-time status by the academic institution but applying for a school vacation, practicum or work term, or returning to full-time studies in the next academic term. Students who are in their final year of academic study and who are not intending to return to full-time studies are eligible for student employment up until the time they convocate.
Students participating in education and retraining programs at the post- secondary level, though not full‑time students, are eligible for related student employment opportunities, where appropriate.
