The Senior Technician is a heavy equipment mechanic that specializes in the modernization and repair of cranes. The role involves routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, upgrades, and solving complex problems when the crane malfunctions. It requires self-sufficiency, leadership, effective communication, and professionalism to lead field technicians and serve as the liaison between HCSG management and customers. The technician works in a safety‑first environment and must be available on‑call and provide after‑hour or weekend services as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities- Be on‑call and provide after‑hour services as required.
- Troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and upgrade industrial hoists and cranes at customer locations.
- Train and mentor field technicians.
- Perform OSHA‑required hoist and crane inspections and generate inspection reports and repair orders.
- Communicate with the Service Manager and Branch Manager to schedule and complete daily work.
- Consult with customers on repair and safety issues and recommend improvements.
- Maintain all company‑issued equipment, vehicles, and assets in safe working order.
- Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and responsibly; notify supervisor of deficiencies.
- Maintain supplies of HCSG forms and materials in the company vehicle.
- Collaborate with others in a team environment.
- Attend company‑provided trainings and seminars as required.
- Participate in the HCSG 5 Marks program.
- Other duties as assigned.
The work is labor intensive. Employees must be able to lift up to 50 lbs daily; occasional lifts up to 100 lbs are required. The role involves frequent climbing, balancing, stooping/crouching, overhead reaching, bending, squatting, and prolonged standing and sitting. Occasional pushing, pulling, kneeling, and crawling are required. Great hand and eye coordination is essential. Heights exceeding 50 ft are common.
Employees must travel 20‑50% of the time and work various shifts, including on‑call and overtime. Out‑of‑town travel may be required at the company's discretion.
Work is performed inside or outside, depending on customer requirements, with varying temperatures. Summer temperatures can exceed 120°F. The position exposes employees to noise, heights, fumes, dust, and odors.
Minimum Qualifications- At least 5–7 years of crane repair & maintenance experience, or at least 3–4 years of electrical and/or mechanical experience in lieu of crane repair & maintenance.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Commitment to working and driving safely.
- Willingness to work off the ground at various heights.
- Basic computer skills to use web‑based crane inspection programs.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as a team.
- Knowledge of hand tools and/or possession of hand tools.
- Vocational/Technical training certificate.
Must pass a pre‑employment drug test and background check (DISA) and comply with random and annual drug testing as required.
