The teacher is the key element in promoting the social, emotional, and academic well-being of students and the driver of a warm, inviting school culture aligned with the ideals of the International Baccalaureate Programmes. Working within an established framework for the delivery of educational services, the teacher supports the school program and ensures the instructional program is implemented to maximize learning for all students.

As a High School Visual Arts Teacher, you will inspire students to develop creativity, technical skills, cultural awareness, and personal expression through visual arts, while aligning teaching practices with the IB Diploma Programme (DP), IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the BC Education Plan.

• Support the Meadowridge mission and vision
• Model and encourage a culture in alignment with the IB Learner Profile
• Collaborate and maintain a professional relationship with school staff and faculty
• Implement the IB Programme and BC Education Plan (plan, deliver, assess, and report) for assigned grades and subject areas
• Embrace experiential and inquiry-based education through the intentional engagement of the head (intellectual), heart (emotional), and hands (physical) into pedagogical practice
• Monitor and support students’ academic, emotional, and social growth through our pastoral care program
• Nurture each child to discover their own talents, sense of purpose, and sense of self
• Build positive relationships with families through regular communication and participation in community engagements
• Collaboratively plan and participate in field trips, including overnight trips as assigned
• Make an active contribution to our extensive co-curricular programs, and participate fully in the Meadowridge community
• Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to professional growth and development
• Ensure classroom is ready to receive students prior to the start of school each year, including classroom relocations
• Assume additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head of School or delegate
• In addition to the general duties of all teachers, the High School Art Teacher will: design and implement an engaging art curriculum consistent with the IB DP Visual Arts framework and BC Arts Education curriculum; plan, deliver, and assess units of inquiry that integrate concept-based learning, global contexts, and the IB learner profile

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a focus in Visual Arts, Fine Arts, or Art Education
• A valid BC Teaching Certificate (or eligibility to obtain)
• Experience teaching High School art; independent and/or IB school experience preferred
• IB DP Arts training and/or experience is an asset (or willingness to complete IB professional development)
• Proficiency in a wide range of artistic media, including traditional and digital tools
• Experience integrating technology into the arts (e.g., digital drawing tools, photo/video editing, design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Procreate, etc.)
• Strong classroom management skills, with an emphasis on creating a safe, inclusive, and inspiring art space

• Demonstrates an approach to teaching and learning that aligns with Meadowridge values: strong practitioner of inquiry, experiential, and concept-based teaching
• Commitment to supporting differentiated learning styles and educating the whole student
• Skilled in formative and summative assessment strategies aligned with IB philosophy
• Passionate about creativity, innovation, and global perspectives in the visual arts
• Highly collaborative and eager to work with colleagues across disciplines to enrich student learning
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage students, families, and colleagues
