Position: Lunch Hour Supervisors - Casual

Lunch Hour Supervisors Casual (On-Call)

School District No. 42 (SD42) meets the learning needs of approximately 17,000 students of all ages in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, and is defined by its determination to keep student learning and growth at the heart of all its decisions. With an annual budget of over $200M and over 2,000 staff, the school district provides K-12 educational services in 22 elementary schools, six secondary schools, and two alternate schools.

It also provides a variety of certificate programs and relevant quality life-long learning opportunities through Ridge Meadows College and Continuing Education.

SD42 is looking for qualified candidates interested in working as Casual Lunch Hour Supervisors in our District. Lunch hour supervisors patrol school grounds and supervise students over the lunch hour ensuring a safe environment.

Casual Lunch Hour Supervisors are expected to work 90 shifts per school year, average of approximately 9-10 shifts per month.

Responsibilities
  • Patrols the school and grounds during lunch hour to assure a safe and regulated environment.
  • Provides basic comfort and assists students who have injured themselves and/or are in emotional distress by providing, or calling for, appropriate assistance.
  • Brings unacceptable behavior to students' attention and provides direction. Refers major incidents to the Principal and/or designate for corrective action. Such behavior may include running in hallways, littering, fighting, swearing, horseplay, smoking, vandalism, etc.
  • Monitors games and ensures appropriate use of playground equipment.
  • Files reports of student incidents and/or maintains an incident log where minor routine situations have been handled.
  • Performs other assigned comparable duties which are within the scope of knowledge, skills and ability required by this position.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of Grade 10,
  • Previous working experience with and/or enjoyment of students of all ages and be able to monitor them in a respectful manner,
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents and visitors and to function harmoniously in a school environment.
