Responsibilities
  • Be the principal designer of the mechanical systems associated with project(s)
  • Responsible for the function and safety of the mechanical systems associated with project(s)
  • Coordinate with other members of a multi‑disciplinary team
  • Collaborate with global teams on projects
  • Assist in the development of the scope of assigned projects
  • Oversee any other mechanical design work done as part of assigned projects
  • Critically review mechanical system designs across the organisation with a focus on those done at EES Vancouver
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with EES Engineers/Managers, various people across the Epiroc Organisation, Customers and other stakeholders to achieve project goals and ensure complete system integration
  • Identify and mitigate risks to ensure successful project outcomes
  • Prepare and review technical documentation:
    • Part drawings, FEA reports, various types of design reports, FMEA Analysis, ISO, CSA and other industry standards, etc.
  • Identify opportunities for process and design improvement/optimization
  • Review job candidate resumes, test results and attend their interviews where needed
  • Plan for and execute testing and commissioning of the systems created as part of assigned projects
  • Oversee the integration of various systems, ensuring compatibility, efficiency, safety and reliability across the entire system
  • Creating and maintaining assigned project's CAD and PLM data
  • Overseeing and reviewing the creation of technical drawings and reports
Knowledge/Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in an applicable engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of related industry experience
  • PEng license
  • In-depth knowledge in one or more system types such as hydraulic, controls, batteries, thermal management, power electronics, etc.
  • Cross‑domain engineering skills and product prototyping knowledge, including electronic hardware design, software development, EMC compliance, and functional testing
  • Subject matter expert (SME) on current and future BEV/automotive standards (OEM specific, SAE, ISO, etc.)
  • Experience with functional safety application design and development under IEC EN 61508
  • Good understanding of hardware and software systems simulations using tools such as MATLAB and Simulink
  • Proficient in project management software, tools and techniques
