Location: Pitt Meadows

The Katzie First Nation Public Works Team is seeking a temporary full-time Junior Maintenance Worker to support general repairs within the Katzie community. This position is a short-term backfill to cover a cultural leave and is expected to be approximately four (4) weeks in duration. This is a SASET-funded position.

Working under the Public Works and Maintenance Supervisor, the successful applicant will gain hands‑on experience providing maintenance services across Katzie IR#1, IR#2, and IR#3. This role offers an excellent opportunity to build practical maintenance skills, and Katzie Band members with a strong interest in learning and contributing to the community are encouraged to apply.

What You’ll Do:
  • Ensure a safe work environment for the Maintenance and Public Works team.
  • Assist with basic plumbing, electrical, and wood framing repairs.
  • Assist with minor roof repairs.
  • Minor maintenance of roads, bridges, culverts & parking lots.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Work with the Public Works and Maintenance team to troubleshoot building envelope leaks, siding, weather‑stripping, and windows.
  • Provide groundskeeping services such as landscaping maintenance, snow removal, and safety salt placement where required around KFN public buildings.
  • Move and assemble furniture and special events equipment.
  • Small water system repairs & maintenance, such as bleeding & maintaining hydrants and lift station maintenance.
  • Communicate with the Supervisor on any priority projects or problems.
  • Assist with setting up and tearing down of events.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Experience in using hand & power tools is an asset.
  • Respect for working within health and safety regulations and preventive measures.
  • Exemplary work ethic, with a willingness to learn.
  • Interest in the maintenance and repairs of small power tools (e.g. pumps, power washers, mowers, weed whackers, etc.)
  • Willing to work in all weather and on‑call, including weekends, evenings & emergencies.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment when carrying out duties and to maintain good working relationships with the public and fellow employees.
  • Ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the position, including working from heights, lifting, and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge of First Nations communities and culture and experience working with the community an asset.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector).
  • Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract is an asset.
