Summary

The Packaging Lead packages and prepares all products for distribution by performing all duties meticulously. Leads Packaging Support team and operations when a supervisor is not present. Opens and/or closes the shifts and assists with staff training. Must be able to work a flexible schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Availability for Monday - Friday 9:30AM to 6PM schedule
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe work area for yourself and other employees
  • Perform basic visual quality inspections on products
  • Maintain packaging flow by ensuring adequate product levels at each station
  • Ensure quotas are met by observing Packaging Support team members and training/coaching
  • Maintain high-quality standards during shifts including constant QA/QC of all products being prepped and produced
  • Ability to work well with others in high-pressure situations with a sense of urgency
  • Communicate discrepancies in quantities or quality of product
  • Perform opening and closing duties
  • Ensure proper storage of all facility consumables and products; storing food products in compliance with safety practices
  • Maintain and comply with sanitation and safety standards; maintaining a clean and organized packaging area and work environment
  • Perform visual quality inspections on products, minimize waste where possible
  • Effectively communicate information and respond to questions/suggestions from various levels within the company
  • Assist Production Supervisors and Managers in training and coaching Packaging Support employees on proper procedures, techniques and compliance protocol
  • Communicate quality or safety discrepancies to Supervisors, Managers and/or Directors
  • Makes recommendations to management regarding personnel evaluation and training of the Packaging Support team
  • Assist the Production Manager or Packaging Supervisor as needed
  • Ensure a safe working environment; reviewing and communicating daily on all safety related topics of discussion
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on business needs
Qualifications
  • Experience with the utilization of sanitation tools and chemicals, food safety, and the safe operation of standard sanitation equipment
  • At least 6 months of related experience and/or training in a production or packaging environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Use of cleaning chemicals and safe handling practices
  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Must have experience working with a high sense of urgency, preferably in a fast-paced work environment
  • Computer

    Skills:

    Microsoft suite (core applications), Google, Slack, experience in Jira and/or other management platforms and software preferred
  • Language

    Skills:

    Must be able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and written
  • Math

    Skills:

    Possess basic mathematical skills; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Travel Requirements:
    Occasional travel required between buildings and sites
  • Ability to maintain and manage confidential information
  • Provincial regulations require all applicants must be 19 years of age or older
  • Serv Safe, Food Handler’s or FOODSAFE Level 1 card preferred
  • Will be required to submit to a background check
  • Must obtain all applicable government-required permits, licenses, and certifications
Benefits You’ll receive a hourly rate of $22.50 - $27.75/hr. (CAD), 12 paid holidays, 120 hours vacation time, RRSP matching, and supplemental health, dental and vision insurance.
