Mold Setup – Injection Mold Technician

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and highly capable Injection Molding Technician (Setup Technician) to support our manufacturing operations, which include injection molding, assembly, and packaging.

This is a hands-on role responsible for installing, setting, and adjusting molds and auxiliary equipment, keeping our molding presses and production work cells running safely, efficiently, and consistently. The Setup Technician supports the organization across a variety of areas, including mold setup, processing support, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting plant equipment, and quality support.

The ideal candidate must have direct experience operating various injection molding machines and demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, a practical troubleshooting mindset, and a commitment to safe work practices, organization, and continuous improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities Injection Molding, Tooling, and Processing Support
  • Perform mold changes and set-ups on injection molding presses (up to 500 ton).
  • Safely install molds using proper lifting devices and procedures.
  • Start up and stabilize molding processes to meet cycle-time, scrap, and quality targets.
  • Troubleshoot molding defects and processing issues (short shots, flash, sinks, burns, warpage, etc.).
  • Maintain accurate process and mold documentation (set-up sheets, mold receipts, process records).
  • Set cycle times, clamp tonnage, size, color, etc. to ensure product meets quality standards.
Plant Maintenance & Equipment Support
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Perform preventative maintenance (PMs) on molding and supporting equipment.
  • Support basic electrical troubleshooting (sensors, switches, relays, etc.).
  • Support pneumatic and hydraulic systems used throughout the facility.
  • Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and reliability improvements.
Quality Ownership & Standards
  • Ensure parts meet quality requirements before releasing production.
  • Respond quickly to quality concerns and support containment actions as needed.
  • Support quality checks, documentation, and process verification.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working area (6S mindset).
  • Follow SOPs, safety requirements, and housekeeping standards.
Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in improvement initiatives focused on:
  • Reducing scrap and downtime.
  • Improving cycle time and process stability.
  • Improving mold-change efficiency and standardization.
  • Strengthening preventative maintenance systems.
  • Improving equipment reliability and repeatability.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 7 years of experience as a Setup Technician in plastic injection molding.
  • Ability to fine-tune processes for materials such as Nylon, PP, ABS, PC, PE.
  • Understanding of auxiliary molding equipment (dryers, loaders, chillers, granulators, etc.).
  • Ability to make quick, effective decisions.
  • Adapts and responds to changing conditions, priorities, and requirements.
  • Attends to details and pursues quality in the accomplishment of tasks.
  • Works cooperatively and effectively with others to reach a common goal.
  • Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic principles.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate material-handling equipment.
