Registered Nurse - Perinatal Transition Line - Ridge Meadows Hospital – Training Opportunity

Job Summary: Fraser Health offers specialty nursing education sponsorship to new applicants, including new graduate nurses or currently registered nurses, as part of our ongoing shared responsibility for professional development and safe, competent, ethical care. Sponsorship for the specialty nursing education includes tuition for required courses, wages during the full‑time study portion, and mandatory days. The BCIT Perinatal Program offers three intakes per year (Spring, Fall, Winter) and is 24 weeks long (12 weeks online, 12 weeks full‑time).
The FHE In‑house Program offers 2‑3 intakes per year and is about 14 weeks long, full‑time. Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Fraser Health in NICU for at least 18 months after completing training.
In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating nursing care to patients. The purpose of this position is to provide qualified registered nurses the opportunity to consolidate their skills by rotating through a specialty nursing unit(s) prior to and/or during the undertaking of post‑graduate coursework applicable to the relevant specialty nursing unit(s).
Responsibilities- Assess patients and collect information from a variety of sources using observation, communication, data review, and physical assessment. Make a nursing diagnosis and determine the nursing interventions.
- Collaborate with patients and their families/caregivers to develop care plans, encouraging family participation and establishing therapeutic relationships.
- Participate in care and discharge planning, ensuring care plans are updated and coordinated with the interprofessional team.
- Coordinate nursing care, set priorities, delegate tasks, and make referrals as needed.
- Collaborate with interprofessional team members to resolve issues and adjust care plans.
- Teach patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration, and health maintenance.
- Plan and discuss referral information with patients and families and initiate referrals to appropriate agencies.
- Document assessments, diagnoses, interventions, outcomes, and referrals according to practice standards.
- Participate in nursing committees, care conferences, and councils.
- Engage in research and quality improvement activities to identify and recommend changes to practice.
- Attend in‑services and other educational programs, maintaining current clinical competence.
- Provide feedback on patient care programs, policies, and equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current registration as a Registered Nurse with the BCCNM.
- Completion or willingness to complete the applicable post‑graduate specialty nursing course/program.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment and provide care through appropriate interventions.
- Effective communication with patients, families, public, and interprofessional team via verbal, written, and electronic means.
- Promotion of person‑centered care demonstrating empathy, cultural sensitivity, and patient advocacy.
- Integration and evaluation of data from multiple sources to problem‑solve.
