Job Overview
A neonatologist is a medical specialist who provides advanced medical care for newborn infants, as well as premature and critically ill infants. They diagnose and treat a variety of conditions, from birth defects and infections to breathing problems and cardiac issues. Neonatologists are responsible for managing complex medical issues, performing a variety of medical procedures, administering medication, and monitoring the health and development of infants.
They work closely with families to provide support and education, as well as coordinating with a team of medical professionals, including pediatricians, nurses, and specialists.
- Provide comprehensive care to newborns and premature infants
- Evaluate the physical and mental development of newborns
- Perform assessments of infants’ health, including ordering and interpreting lab and imaging tests
- Prescribe medications and treatment plans
- Advise parents on infant care and nutrition
- Attend deliveries and provide emergency care for newborns
- Collaborate with other healthcare team to ensure the best possible care for the newborn
- Maintain the electronic medical record in accordance with Fairview standards and in accordance with licensure and scope
- Recognize and appropriately respond to medical emergencies
- Serve as a patient advocate by maintaining patient confidentiality, protecting patient rights, communicating in a timely manner and resolving concerns or complaints regarding care and service
- Medical Doctorate degree (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) or foreign equivalent from an accredited school of medicine
- Graduate of an accredited ACGME training program in neonatology
- Sub-speciality certification from ABP in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
- Licensed or ability to obtain Minnesota board of Medical Practice Licensure; currently board certification in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics or an equivalent board of the RCPSC or eligible examination for certification; current NRP certification
- Ability to obtain and/or maintain DEA certification for the State of MN
- Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges

The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, our organization values pay equity and considers the internal equity of our team when making any offer. Positions with the same min/max are flat rate jobs based on 40 hours/week. Compensation plans based on production can allow for higher pay than the range posted.
