EHS Specialist

Overview

This is an evergreen posting; candidates may be considered for future positions in our Scientific Insourcing Services department. The role supports Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) activities for laboratory R&D operations. Training will be provided to enable successful performance and growth in a laboratory sciences career at Pace.

• Monthly safety surveys (presenting monthly safety focus, entering safety surveys into database, tracking survey data, and ensuring findings are closed out in a timely manner)
• Initiate, follow up, and complete incident documentation for incidents/injuries; conduct investigations, identify root causes, document preventive actions, and provide updates to management
• Problem solve and troubleshoot waste logistics
• Verify Waste Stream Profiles and Waste Inventory are active and accurate
• Ensure waste labels are correct and accurate
• Understand and implement waste storage and handling procedures
• Assist in the disposal of hazardous waste and materials during laboratory clean outs
• Hazard Review documentation (pre- and post-work) and identify processes requiring a Hazard Review
• Participate in monthly Tech Forum Lab Safety meetings; communicate EHS updates to committees as needed
• Provide respirator fit tests
• Perform machine guarding assessments
• Support lab commissioning (EHS readiness, equipment start-up, pre-start up safety reviews, lab moves, and lab exiting for vacated areas)
• Maintain active communication with various customer personnel

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Biology, or related field
• 1+ year of EHS and/or Chemistry experience
• OSHA 30 and/or Hazwoper 40 preferred
• Ability to identify improvement opportunities, develop plans, gain management buy-in, and track improvements to closure
• Risk analysis skills for hazard and risk identification, assessment, and controls; able to communicate risks and mitigation methods
• Adaptability to changing circumstances and ability to prioritize work effectively
