As a CBG (Consumer Business Group) Advanced Product Development Specialist
, you will apply your technical expertise, curiosity, and collaborative mindset to create differentiated solutions for consumers around the world. In this role, you will make an impact by:
- Advancing materials and product technologies
, translating customer and consumer needs into robust product designs, and commercializing innovative solutions for global markets.
- Leading product development for the consumer packaged goods industry, with a primary focus on stationery and home and office markets, working the iconic brands Post-it® and Scotch™.
- Partnering with corporate research laboratories and global laboratory teams to build new product capabilities and applications that respond to evolving consumer and market trends.
- Driving products from bench-scale development through pilot-scale validation and manufacturing commercialization in partnership with product engineering, supply chain, third-party manufacturers, quality, and other cross‑functional teams.
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires, at a minimum, the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemical engineering, materials science, or chemistry (completed and verified prior to start).
- Five (5) years of product research and development experience in a private, public, government, or military environment.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Master’s degree or higher in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, polymer chemistry, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Excellent technical presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to identify complex problems and develop effective solutions.
- Passion for developing new technologies, solving complex problems through novel approaches, and rapidly prototyping product concepts.
- Experience developing and commercializing stationery, home and office, consumer packaged goods, or related products.
- Hands‑on experience with adhesives, films, liners, and related material or process development.
- Demonstrated success in exploring new product or technology platforms and scaling solutions from bench to pilot line and manufacturing.
- Experience developing and validating test methods.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across global, cross‑functional teams, including manufacturing, regulatory, application engineering, quality, supply chain, and business partners.
