Overview
Harriet's Haven for Pets Program Manager man is seeking a Program Manager for Harriet's Haven for Pets to join a dynamic and collaborative team to support the agency’s mission, vision, and values. This position is for someone compassionate, experienced, and highly organized to oversee daily operations, programming, and care at its on-site pet facility. Reporting to the Shelter Director, this full-time, exempt position requires 40 hours per week (Tuesday through Saturday), with flexibility to be on call for emergencies.
RoleResponsibilities
- Facilitate safety and healing:
Ensure low-stress, safe and secure interactions between people and their pets and build supportive relationships with pet owners. - Build programming:
Create and maintain protocols for animal wellbeing, safety and health. Create and provide training for Tubman staff on best practices in collaboration with community partners. - Oversee day-to-day operations:
Manage daily pet facility needs, including scheduling staff and volunteers, ensuring adequate supply inventory, and collaborating with the facilities team on program spaces. - Monitor health:
Recognize signs of illness, injury, or distress; administer medications (or oversee proper administration by trained staff/volunteers); coordinate with veterinary care. - Hygiene and sanitation:
Ensure proper cleaning and disinfection protocols for kennels, common areas, and equipment to prevent disease. - Manage staffing:
Recruit paid and volunteer roles; onboard, train and provide performance reviews. - Manage budget and reporting:
Manage budget and provide regular reporting on program activities (animal census, health reports, incident reports). - Collaborate:
Work with Tubman staff and community partners to share program information, build new partnerships and secure in-kind services and supplies. Act as a liaison between Harriet’s Haven for Pets and Tubman’s shelter and housing programs. - Communicate:
Provide consistent, timely, and trauma-informed communication with pet owners, community partners, and veterinary care providers, especially in highly emotional situations.
- 2+ years of effective leadership and management experience with a collaborative decision-making approach; analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Associate or bachelor’s Degree in business or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- 1-2 years of experience working in animal rescue, veterinary services, or other relevant animal-related profession preferred; veterinary technician experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of relationship violence, sexual exploitation, addiction, mental health challenges, and other forms of trauma.
- Strong communication skills, both in written and oral formats.
- Self-starter and highly motivated.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Proficient in computer and technology skills.
- Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, walk extensively, stand, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to pass a DHS fingerprint criminal background study as required by program licensing.
The annual salary range for this position is $65,000-$67,600 annually depending on experience.
