Position: Employee Relations Specialist - Full Time Contract Ending 2027

As an Employee Relations Specialist Assistant Vice President, you will work to support the business by managing complex employment matters and Employee Relations cases covering several topics. You will provide comprehensive advice and counsel to Managers adhering to relevant employment law and Barclays’ employment policies and practices. This would include giving technical advice and support to managers and employees on a range of topics (including Disciplinary, Capability, Grievance and Sickness) and investigating matters where required.

Qualifications
  • HR professional with strong Employee Relations experience.
  • Ability to build a wide network across the organization, comfortably navigating ambiguity and interacting with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of ER Cases/workplace matters.
  • Understanding of employment legislation; familiarity with UK employment law and requirements with respect to UK Conduct Rules.
Additional Skills
  • Prior Employee Relations experience.
  • Ability to balance commercial goals with legal risk.
  • Proven track record of giving technical, commercial and strategic advice.
  • Experience managing complex high‑risk cases across a number of topics such as disciplinary, capability and grievance, and investigating matters where relevant.
  • Ability to analyse data to identify thematics and implement strategic initiatives.
  • Previous experience in designing and delivering Manager training.
  • Experience with large‑scale programs and projects, including organisational change efforts.
  • Evidenced maturity in handling sensitive personal matters.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication, including the ability to influence others and distil information into key messages.
  • Proven team player and motivated self‑starter with the ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.

Contract Details

This is a full‑time contract role ending in March 2027 based in the Glasgow office.

Purpose of the role

To develop, implement and maintain the employee relations policies and procedures of the business. This includes ensuring that policies are compliant with all applicable laws and regulations, and that they align with the overall business strategy and values.

Accountabilities
  • Employee relations policies and procedures development, implementation and maintenance, aligning these to all applicable laws, regulations and the overall business strategy.
  • Collaboration with other HR departments to ensure that all policies are integrated and consistent.
  • Guidance for HR teams on interpretation of employee relations policies.
  • Employee relations training programmes, including development, implementation and monitoring.
Assistant Vice President Expectations
  • Advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. Collaborate closely with other functions/business divisions.
  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well‑developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function. Set objectives and coach employees in pursuit of those objectives, appraisal of performance relative to objectives and determination of reward outcomes.
  • For an individual contributor, lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. Identify new directions for assignments or projects, using a combination of cross‑functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
  • Consult on complex issues; provide advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and develop new policies/procedures to support the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
