What we’re looking for- A Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
- Confident in autonomous decision-making and clinical assessment
- Calm under pressure and able to adapt to fast‑changing situations
- Compassionate, non‑judgemental and committed to equitable healthcare
- A strong communicator with excellent team‑working skills
Experience in prison nursing is helpful, but not essential – we provide full training and ongoing professional development.
Note:
This post is subject to security vetting. To be considered you must have continuously resided in the UK for a minimum of 3 years prior to the application and be able to evidence your years of residency.
As a Prison Nurse, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide a full range of primary care and urgent treatment services to people in custody. You’ll support individuals with complex needs and chronic conditions, often being the first point of clinical contact.
Your day may include:
- Conducting assessments and delivering evidence‑based nursing interventions
- Managing long‑term conditions and supporting treatment adherence
- Responding to emergencies and providing first‑line urgent care
- Administering medication and supporting medication management
- Working closely with mental health, GP, pharmacy and substance misuse teams
- Promoting health education, harm reduction and rehabilitation
- Essential: Current UK professional registration (NMC)
- Desirable: Prison nursing experience, experience managing long‑term conditions
The application must include evidence of the required years of UK residency to meet prison vetting standards, and a Disclosure and Barring Service check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
