Position: Young Programming Assistant (Volunteers)

Calling all young film lovers in Kent! Join our local film festival team for an exciting opportunity to help shape our program selection over the next few months.

We’re looking for two passionate young people aged 18-26 to join us as a Young Programming Assistant. You’ll have the chance to discover and evaluate the best films for our festival, watching both feature and short films while sharing your ideas about what should be shown and helping decide what our audiences will watch.

You’ll be able to get involved behind the scenes, learn how a festival is organised, and meet others who enjoy films too. Your opinions will help us create an amazing lineup that resonates with diverse viewers. You don’t need any special experience—just an interest in movies and a willingness to join in.

We welcome everyone, especially if you’ve never done anything like this before. The role is flexible, so you can fit it around studies, work, or other things you do. If you love film, want to be part of something creative, learn new skills, and have your voice heard, this could be a good fit for you.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Watch and assess feature films and short films submitted to the festival
  • Help evaluate which films are suitable for our audiences, forming the foundations of our short film programme themes & titles
  • Share your opinions and insights about the films you watch
  • Attend 1-hour programming calls with the festival programming committee (1st Wednesday of each month at 5pm)
  • Meet with the festival director to discuss the short film selections
  • Research and suggest films that would work well for our festival
What We’re Looking For:
  • Someone aged 18-26 years and based in, or from, Kent
  • Genuine passion for film and storytelling
  • Ability to clearly and confidently share your opinions and articulate your thoughts on movies
What is required:
  • Access to a computer and internet connection
  • Ability to attend 3×1 hour online monthly programming calls
  • 15-20 hours availability between now and mid-September to watch and feedback on films
What’s In It For You:
  • Flexible, self‑directed hours that fit around your schedule
  • Travel expenses covered to attend festival events
  • Behind‑the‑scenes experience in film curation
  • Chance to influence what films get shown to local audiences

This is a fantastic opportunity to combine your love of film with real industry experience, all while working flexibly around your other commitments!
