About the Role
2gether Support Solutions is a Facilities and Estates services company providing support to healthcare professionals caring for over 2000 patients daily across multiple East Kent hospital sites. 2gether provides vital services including maintenance, cleaning, catering, procurement, logistics and much more.
We are recruiting a Mechanical Engineering Specialist to join our Estates team. This post operates as the technical expert for mechanical within the engineering function on‑site, providing expertise across complex mechanical systems in a live healthcare environment.
You will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and continuous operation of essential hospital services, leading on fault diagnosis, technical resolution, compliance auditing, and corrective remedial works across high‑risk and business‑critical infrastructure. This is a hands‑on specialist role, requiring technical expertise rather than general maintenance support.
The role operates on a rotating shift pattern incorporating 8:00am–4:00pm and 2:00pm–10:00pm, with flexibility required to support operational needs.
Key Responsibilities- Act as the technical authority for complex mechanical systems, including HVAC, boilers, medical gas, BMS, and associated infrastructure.
- Lead on advanced fault diagnosis, technical investigation, and resolution of complex system failures.
- Carry out engineering audits, condition assessments, and compliance inspections, identifying risks, defects, and improvement actions.
- Plan, deliver, and oversee corrective and remedial works to address audit findings, compliance gaps, and system deficiencies.
- Coordinate and manage multi‑disciplinary system shutdowns, isolation, and infrastructure refurbishments.
- Undertake technical assessments, commissioning support, and oversight of installations for new or upgraded systems.
- Provide specialist guidance and assurance on statutory and regulatory compliance, including HTMs, SFG
20, and Health & Safety legislation. - Prepare, review, and author Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS) to ensure safe systems of work.
- Support incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and detailed technical reporting.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to colleagues and contractors.
- Participate in occasional overtime and out‑of‑hours support to maintain service continuity.
You will be a highly skilled mechanical engineering specialist, with a strong track record in diagnosis, resolution, audit, and remedial delivery within complex, safety‑critical environments. You will be comfortable operating autonomously while acting as a trusted technical advisor to others.
- HNC/HND or equivalent in a mechanical engineering discipline.
- Demonstrable experience in complex M&E environments, ideally healthcare or other critical services.
- Advanced fault‑finding, diagnostic, and problem‑solving capability.
- Strong understanding of compliance auditing, remedial planning, HTMs, SFG
20, and Health & Safety standards. - Ability to work independently while supervising and supporting colleagues as required.
- Flexibility to work a rotating shift system and travel across sites (full driving licence required).
- Strong communication skills, able to translate complex technical issues into clear, practical actions.
- Familiarity with CAFM systems, digital diagnostics, and asset and compliance data.
