Job Summary

Functions under the direction of the Director, Accounting with minimal supervision. The Technical Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring month‑end close and accounting deliverables are accurately, timely and efficiently executed in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This position is also responsible for the management of Accounting staff and requires collaboration with departments supporting and utilizing financial information. Requires a bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting and at least 5 years of experience in the field with people‑management experience preferred.

Core

Responsibilities And Essential Functions
  • Assist with the management/direction of general accounting functions/processes
    • Responsible for successfully closing Wellstar Health Systems financial statements monthly
    • Maintain and approve various journal entries prepared by team members
    • Assist with the application of GAAP to new transactions, where applicable, including researching guidance and proposing accounting positions
    • Ensure that the monthly close calendar is adhered to and that all close and compliance procedures are met
    • Perform balance sheet and income statement analyses
    • Review balance sheet account reconciliations and assist in ensuring completion
    • Assist with preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and annual financial and compliance reporting
    • Supports annual audits
  • Manage/supervise the general accounting staff
    • Interview, hire, and train new employees
    • Assign responsibilities to team members, considering skill/experience levels
    • Supervise staff in the performance of their duties, including annual performance evaluations
    • Mentor/coach and continue to train and develop staff for better utilization and efficiency
    • Assist with continuing education for staff through department meetings and special sessions
  • Special projects, as assigned
    • Assist with special projects as assigned
    • Acquisition, accounting, and reporting duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all Well Star Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required

Minimum Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance
  • Master's Degree in Accounting/Finance or MBA
Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

Additional License(s) And Certification(s)
  • Certified Public Accountant (preferred)
Required Minimum Experience
  • Minimum 5 years experience in finance, accounting
  • People management experience (preferred)
Required Minimum Skills
  • Working and current knowledge of US GAAP rules and regulations
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to solve complex problems
  • Strong written and verbal communication including interpersonal skills necessary to lead direct reports and interact effectively with business leaders across different functions throughout the organization
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced and dynamic environment, highly adaptable to change
  • Ability to manage and lead multiple projects, delegate work, prioritize work, meet deadlines and concentrate on detailed information
  • Self‑motivated and proactive, conscientious and detail‑oriented
  • Advanced Excel skills (preferred)
