Part‑Time Library Assistant II – Sewell Mill & Powder Springs
Position Information
Location:
Sewell Mill and Powder Springs Libraries
Schedule:
18 hours per week (including nights and weekends) plus an additional 4 hours (1:00‑5:00 PM) on scheduled Sundays
Primary duties include library circulation, reference services, and assistance with youth programs and outreach.
- Provide customer service to library patrons and the public: greet visitors, direct them to appropriate areas, provide assistance and information on library services, fees, and procedures, search for books and patron records, and reserve materials.
- Return and shelve library materials: manage shelving, verify labels, locate missing items, and arrange materials in proper order.
- Check library materials in and out: operate the automated circulation system, count paperbacks, retrieve books from the drop, inspect for damage, route books to appropriate locations, and handle new book displays.
- Perform general library operations: sort donated books, move book carts, maintain library appearance, clean counters, water plants, and run various errands.
- Monitor inventory levels of library supplies and initiate requests for new or replacement materials as needed.
- Answer telephone calls: provide information, take and relay messages, and forward calls to appropriate personnel.
- Provide computer and reference assistance: help patrons locate information, instruct use of library systems, suggest internal and external resources, and conduct informal training when required.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- One year of experience in customer service or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Enjoys working with children and teens.
- Ability to create flyers and displays to promote collections, services, and programs.
- Experience with art activities and/or making crafts.
- Possess artistic or creative skills.
Tasks require light physical effort, including lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 10 pounds, and extended periods at a keyboard or workstation.
Sensory RequirementsSome tasks require oral communication.
Environmental FactorsEssential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
