Overview

POSITION TITLE: Instructor, Adult Education - Temporary (ADE1) at Cobb County School District

JOB CODE: ADE1

DIVISION: Accountability and Research

DEPARTMENT: Alternative Education

WORK DAYS: As Needed

REPORTS TO: Director, Adult Education

PAY GRADE: N/A

FLSA: Exempt

PAY FREQUENCY: Monthly

LOCATION: Hawthorne location (Adult Education)

Responsibilities

Serves as an instructor for adult learners who are seeking to obtain their GED, high school diploma, or further advance their English speaking skills.

  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  • Delivers instruction using a variety of teaching strategies including technology.
  • Prepares and implements lesson plans in accordance with TCSG curriculum.
  • Implements and monitors the Student Education Plan (SEP); advises students of progress via SEP.
  • Develops lesson plans for ABE/GED and/or ESL instruction based on SEP.
  • Maintains a safe and secure environment for staff and students.
  • Coordinates student post-assessments.
  • Implements and enforces classroom rules and procedures.
  • Prepares and maintains required attendance reports.
  • Attends required faculty/staff meetings and professional development trainings.
  • Assists in Resource Center and Student Services when needed.
  • Assists with grant writing when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
  • Applies to 200 day instructors.
  • This instructor position will support Adult Education at Hawthorne location by covering classes during instructor absences. Days and times will vary. Classes meet Monday–Thursday; times vary: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (morning) or 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM (evening).
Qualifications
  • Educational Level: Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Certification/License: None required
  • Experience: None; 2 years of teaching preferred
  • Physical

    Activities:

    Routine physical activities required to fulfill job responsibilities
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Written and oral communication; computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel); knowledge of software packages a plus; bilingual ability preferred but not required for ESL
  • Note:

    The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
