Job Summary
Provide hands‑on technical services and practical application guidance to students and faculty in an undergraduate engineering research setting. Support the instructional mission by maintaining mechanical equipment and supporting fabrication and laboratory safety.
Responsibilities- Maintain and repair engineering lab equipment, record maintenance activities.
- Prepare equipment for lab courses, purchase parts and components.
- Assist students/faculty with fabrication, test specimens, research parts, and 3D printing.
- Maintain inventory, manage spare parts and enforce safety practices.
- Provide guidance on safe equipment operation and lab procedures.
- Cross‑department support (10–30% of the week) including equipment set‑up.
- Procure materials needed for fabrication, assembly, and repair of laboratory systems.
- Complete periodic training and stay current with new technologies.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent technical/vocational education/experience.
- Current, valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
- Knowledge of mechanical equipment, safety standards, and G‑code programming.
- Experience with Solid Works or similar CAD software.
- Basic knowledge of physics governing mechanical systems.
- Customer‑service orientation and ability to train students.
- Advanced degree in a related field.
- Certificate in welding or CNC machining.
- Prior industrial or higher‑education fabrication experience.
- 2+ years of related work experience.
