The purpose of this classification is to audit commercial and industrial personal property returns in the County to ensure accurate and equitable valuation for tax assessment purposes.
Performs audits of business financial statements and assets: prepares letters to schedule audit; conducts site visits to examine assets; meets with owners and accountants; examines financial records; and provides results of audits.
Assists business owners, tax representatives, and the general public with tax-related matters: and provides information and answers questions regarding appraisal and audit methodology, appeals process, and current or historical valuation.
Represents the assessors in Board of Equalization (BOE) hearings and judicial appeals: collects and organizes information to present to the BOE; files appeals to court; and provides information to attorneys for litigation and hearings.
Assists other employees in completing jobs and other assignments: trains and assists employees in learning the appeals procedures; and gives advice based on knowledge of appraisal laws.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field required; supplemented by five years of progressively responsible experience in property appraisal and valuation to include lead or supervisory experience and seven years of experience in the field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License;
must currently possess and maintain Appraiser IV certification or be actively in pursuit of an Appraiser IV certification. Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
