Wellstar’s Behavioral Health Service Line is pleased to announce a new position for a Pediatric Clinical Psychologist. This clinician will support Wellstar’s expanded behavioral health services for the child and adolescent population in east Paulding County. The clinician will work with a multi‑disciplinary team of child/adolescent psychiatrists, a pediatric neuropsychologist, and masters‑level therapists – aiming to develop a comprehensive pediatric behavioral health program that meets the needs of the Paulding community.
The pediatric psychologist will provide psychological testing and evidence‑based therapy and intervention services to support the needs of children, adolescents, and their families.
The Wellstar Paulding sub‑market is a rapidly growing area in greater Atlanta. This position will be co‑located within a large pediatric clinic, staffed by pediatricians and pediatric advanced practitioners. Within the clinic is a new pediatric behavioral health pod, which will allow for on‑site sub‑specialty services and consistent consultation between the behavioral health and medical teams.
Clinical ResponsibilitiesThe pediatric psychologist we are seeking will need a diverse skill set, with refined diagnostic and intervention skills. They will function as a clinician with up to 50% time allocated to the provision of testing and intervention services for individuals up to the age of 18. They should be equipped to conduct brief (and when necessary, more comprehensive) psychological testing, using a variety of methods including tests of intelligence, child development, cognition (e.g., attention, executive functioning), personality (objective and projective), and social/emotional functioning.
They will write psychological reports and document using Wellstar’s electronic medical record (Epic). In addition to testing, they will allocate the remaining 50% time to the provision of brief interventions using evidence‑based methods. They should have the ability to apply cognitive‑behavioral (CBT), parent‑child interactive therapy, and other treatments to a heterogeneous population. They will consult regularly with Wellstar child/adolescent psychiatrists, therapists, pediatricians, etc.
In addition to testing and therapy services, the psychologist might provide intermittent clinical supervision, conduct staff trainings, and serve on committees under the Behavioral Health and Pediatric Service Line structures.
- Advanced assessment skills in clinical and child/adolescent psychology.
- Familiarity with a variety of psychological tests and methods, and ability to integrate quantitative and qualitative data to formulate diagnostic conceptualizations.
- Strong observational skills and communication – both verbal and written.
- Comfort working with patients with moderate acuity psychiatric and developmental conditions, including ADHD, autism spectrum conditions, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, somatic symptom disorders, school‑avoidance, etc.
- Advanced knowledge of risk factors related to suicidality and sound professional judgment to determine when inpatient and/or involuntary treatment may be required.
- Strong interventionist capable of applying evidence‑based treatments to a heterogeneous group of patients, applying understanding of human motivations to facilitate meaningful behavioral changes.
