Medical Tech 2-Day Shift

Wellstar Health System is looking for a Medical Tech to work a 2‑Day Shift with hands‑on laboratory experience. Under the general supervision of Supervisors, a Manager or Director, the employee will perform clinical laboratory testing pursuant to established protocols while exercising independent judgment and responsibility. The role requires maintaining equipment, records, performing QA activities, and may involve supervising and teaching within the laboratory setting.

• Work independently in the General Laboratory, Blood Bank or Microbiology sections, analyzing blood and body fluids for diagnostic tests.
• Perform all routine testing in hematology, manual hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, chemistry, manual chemistry, blood bank and microbiology as requested.
• Conduct quality‑control tasks, maintain chemical safety logs, record all required activities and monitor work‑in‑progress logs.
• Communicate findings clearly to appropriate personnel, and participate in shift‑to‑shift hand‑off communication.
• Act as a resource for Pathologists, resolve issues, field problem phone calls, and review critical logs.
• Train technicians on new procedures and serve as a technical resource to peers.
• Perform scheduled maintenance on key instruments, maintain up‑to‑date procedure manuals, log reagent shipments and maintain QC reports.
• Order needed supplies, keep inventory stocked, provide training for new employees, and complete Performance Improvement projects.
• Conduct linearity and correlation studies bi‑annually, evaluate new tests and procedure changes, and assist with CAP surveys.
• Maintain readiness for CAP and The Joint Commission standards.
• Participate in bench rotations in the blood bank on evening or night shift as required.
• Operate automated blood bank instruments, perform stat duties, order and supply blood products, and complete shift work assignments.

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Health Science, General Science, or Master’s (Preferred).

• MT(ASCP) – Medical Technologist
• MT(AMT) – Medical Technologist
• MT(HEW) – Medical Technologist
• MT(AAB) – Medical Technologist
• MLS(ASCP) – Medical Laboratory Scientist
• MLS(AMT) – Medical Laboratory Scientist

All certifications must be obtained upon hire unless otherwise specified.

Minimum 3 years as a Medical Laboratory Scientist. Epic experience is preferred.

• Computer and data‑entry experience.
• Effective communication with various members of the healthcare team.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, basic computer operation knowledge.
