WRF Maintenance Technician Trainee - Water Position Information

This position works on Utility Mechanic teams that repair equipment operated by the state‑permitted water reclamation and lift station sites. The maintenance team maintains the water reclamation and lift station process safely and efficiently. This position is located in the Central Maintenance Division of the Water Department and will include mandatory on‑call scheduling, with weekend and holiday hours.

Essential Functions
  • Perform preventative and regularly scheduled maintenance and repairs on major industrial equipment in the field: inspect, troubleshoot, disassemble, and overhaul equipment such as cutters, bearings, chains, mechanical seals, gear reducers, sluice gates, compressors, lights, hydraulic controls, mechanical, structural and plumbing apparatus, belts, conveyors, diesel and gas engines, pipes and piping systems, and pumps; check and test close tolerance; service, lubricate and adjust chemical feed and processing equipment;

    determine excess wear and pump efficiencies; weld and fabricate parts; and adjust valves and carburetors.
  • Perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition: inspect equipment; check fluid levels; replace fluid; grease equipment; replace parts; wash and clean equipment; clean shop and work areas; monitor equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; and report faulty equipment.
  • Provide technical repair service to heavy‑duty equipment at pump stations and water reclamation facilities: read and interpret schematics; disassemble and remove parts; inspect parts and analyze test results to determine defects; diagnose needed repairs or parts to be replaced; repair and/or replace broken and malfunctioning components; clean, lubricate and adjust equipment and machinery; reassemble equipment; verify proper working condition and function;

    coordinate work activities with plant personnel; ensure work and materials are in compliance with manufacturer specifications; and make recommendations to supervisor as required.
  • Troubleshoot, monitor, inspect, maintain, repair and report problems at assigned lift stations: maintain building, fence line, landscaping, and machinery; test alarms, pumps, overhead cranes, level control devices, generators, etc.; make adjustments as needed; inspect and clean wet well; grease and adjust packing on pumps; inspect piping, valves, actuators and pump pressure gauges, emergency backup generator, oil, antifreeze, belts, hoses, air filters, fire extinguishers and other equipment;

    and create and submit related work orders as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of parts and equipment: unload products and shipments; verify products received compared to products ordered; report shortage, damage, and mis‑shipments; store parts and equipment; process orders for delivery; locate inventory; ensure correct product number, quantity and type; label and pack orders; transport orders to shipping locations or delivery platforms; participate in inventory counts; and maintain all related documentation.
  • Follow safety procedures, utilize safety equipment, and monitor work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals: place safety cones, markers, or signs to alert employees and citizens of work areas, wet floors, or other potential hazards; and lock and secure chemical and equipment storage areas.
  • Monitor pump stations via remote monitoring system: monitor system daily for pumping trends and failures; receive and respond to requests for information; release data and metering information; reset alarms; run pumps; and create and submit related work orders.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation for all work activities, such as work orders, timesheets, electrical diagrams, maintenance logs, inventory forms, etc.; and enter and retrieve information into a computer‑based work order maintenance management system.
  • Provide emergency coverage as directed/required; work on standby status according to established departmental schedules.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
