The Trauma Nurse Coordinator is a registered nurse who works under the direction of the Trauma Program Manager to coordinate clinical, operational, and performance improvement initiatives. The role functions as a bedside resource to trauma patient care.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions- Attend trauma activations to participate in care and serve as a resource person to enhance trauma team performance.
- Collaborate with the Trauma Team to assure coverage for time‑sensitive responsibilities and duties; serve as a resource to patients and families to ensure optimal trauma care provision.
- Attend multidisciplinary rounds with the Trauma Team.
- Serve as a liaison to clinical areas responsible for the care of the trauma patient.
- Facilitate multidisciplinary performance activities related to trauma patient care and outcomes.
- Support and assist in designing trauma process improvement and continuous quality enhancement projects.
- Perform concurrent medical record monitoring and data collection.
- Coordinate the trauma performance improvement program.
- Evaluate both clinical and Trauma Registry data, in conjunction with Trauma Program Leadership, and use this information to improve clinical care of trauma patients.
- Collaborate with the institutional PI program and all trauma subspecialties.
- Work with the Trauma Program Manager to review, monitor, and identify PI opportunities at the system and provider levels, escalating cases as appropriate for peer review.
- Facilitate overall Trauma Program quality and consistency.
- Evaluate quality assurance filters defined by the American College of Surgeons, state‑designated standards, and internal filters for process and care improvement opportunities.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual QA reports such as Over/Under Triage.
- Collaborate with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager to develop and maintain a set of quality indicators and to ensure all staff involved in trauma care are knowledgeable about standards of care.
- Coordinate review of variances with the Trauma Medical Director, Trauma Program Manager, and Trauma Committee.
- Integrate trauma quality improvement with the hospital’s quality program.
- Review trauma admission records for data collection and abstraction for inclusion into the trauma registry and assess appropriateness of admission service.
- Analyze all records for quality assurance trauma standards recommended by the Trauma Committee, American College of Surgeons, and Joint Commission, covering all phases of trauma care.
- Maintain the highest level of trauma registry validity to assure accurate program profiling and TQIP, state, and internal data reports.
- Complete routine checks of abstracted data for accuracy.
- Identify suspicious or invalid cases, variables, and data values, and implement corrective action for invalid data.
- Attend all Trauma Department meetings as requested.
- Participate on at least one of the Georgia Committee for Trauma Excellence Subcommittees to support regional and state trauma system development.

RequiredMinimum Education
Graduate of an accredited/approved school of nursing.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) PreferencePreferred.
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)- Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN – Multi‑state Compact
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Instructor
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) – Instructor or ACLS – Provisional
- Trauma Nurse Core Course
Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing in emergency, critical care, and/or trauma care.
