Responsibilities
  • Grocery Clerk (Bakery/Deli) will prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
  • Inform customers of bakery and/or deli specials.
  • Provide customers with fresh products that they have ordered and the correct portion size to prevent shrink.
  • Recommend deli or bakery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
  • Use all equipment in bakery such as refrigerators, freezers, slicers, and ovens according to company guidelines.
  • Prepare foods according to food temperature logs and follow cooking instructions.
  • Measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipe using a variety of utensils and equipment.
  • Adequately prepare, package, label and inventory ingredients in merchandise.
  • Check product quality to ensure freshness; review sell-by dates and take appropriate action.
  • Label, stock and inventory department merchandise.
  • Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Understand the store layout and locate products when requested by customers.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to questions, making suggestions.
  • Maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are kept.
  • Promote trust and respect among associates; create an environment where customers feel welcome and valued by answering questions about products.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines; reinforce safety programs and identify unsafe conditions.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of needed repairs.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Work cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment; manage conflict calmly and professionally.
  • Operate with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information; follow directions and seek assistance when needed.
  • Provide support to diverse customers, including minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Position Qualifications:

    Customer Service skills;
    Effective communication skills;
    Knowledge of basic math;
    Ability to obtain a current food handler permit once employed.
