Position InformationSchedule:
Monday–Thursday 6:00 A.M.–12:00 P.M.;
Friday 6:00 A.M.–11:00 A.M. Hours may change to accommodate emergency staffing.
The purpose of this position is to maintain safe traffic controls and monitor traffic flow, investigate citizen requests for additional traffic control devices, and maintain a statistical database. The role includes gathering, reviewing, and producing statistical data for traffic studies. Employees may be assigned to the Traffic Control Center (TCC) functional area, where duties involve monitoring real‑time traffic and providing real‑time communications regarding traffic conditions.
EssentialFunctions
- Investigate and report on traffic complaints and requests for additional traffic control devices.
- Monitor real‑time traffic from the TCC and provide real‑time communications regarding traffic conditions.
- Verify database records and upload/download database as needed.
- Assist county crews in troubleshooting intersection problems and perform data entry for all traffic accidents, including reviewing, correcting, and tracking reports.
- Answer calls from field crew members and verify problems by comparing field data to database records.
- Prepare fact sheets for road closings and house moves.
- Maintain attendance and punctuality within customary tolerances.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
High School diploma or GED plus two years of previous experience providing broad working knowledge of traffic engineering principles.
Licenses and CertificationsMust possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Physical AbilitiesAbility to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and handling objects of moderate weight (12–20 pounds).
Sensory & Environmental RequirementsAbility to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals; ability to communicate orally. Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
