Overview

PRN LPN (Healthcare)

Responsibilities
  • Administrative Functions:
    Direct the day to day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines; ensure compliance with facility policies; review and revise department policies and manuals; plan shifts, services, programs, and activities; maintain the Nursing Service Procedures Manual; report on shift activities; coordinate with other resident services to maintain the resident’s total regimen of care; ensure personnel are in compliance with job descriptions;

    participate in quality assurance and facility surveys; assist in discharge planning; interpret policies to personnel, residents, visitors, and agencies; admit, transfer, and discharge residents; complete accident/incident reports; manage charting, census, and administrative duties; protect resident information and incident reporting as required.
  • Charting and Documentation:
    Complete and file required records at admission, transfer, and discharge; encourage physician review of treatment plans; receive and transcribe physician orders; chart nursing notes; file accident/incident reports; document diet orders and communicate with Food Services; report discrepancies to the Nurse Supervisor; prepare transfer forms and ensure proper documentation of discharges.
  • Drug Administration Functions:
    Prepare and administer medications as ordered; verify resident identity; manage floor stock and narcotic records; order medications and supplies as needed; review medication cards for accuracy and adherence to policies; notify physicians of stop orders; dispose of drugs and narcotics per procedures.
  • Personnel Functions:
    Participate in evaluations and staffing decisions; communicate staffing needs; supervise and develop nursing personnel; conduct daily rounds; address problem areas with the Nurse Supervisor; ensure CNA training and supervision; enforce department policies; maintain positive interdepartmental relationships; foster a warm and safe unit environment; review complaints and report to the Nurse Supervisor; administer disciplinary actions fairly.
  • Nursing Care Functions:
    Inform and prepare for new admissions; greet and orient residents; coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic services; consult with physicians; implement nursing objectives and standards; supervise and evaluate treatment administration by staff; coordinate social and activity programs; notify physicians about accidents or changes in condition; implement restorative programs; inspect treatment areas; provide direct care when required; use and monitor restraints per policy;

    collect specimens and perform routine measurements; monitor seriously ill residents; manage dietary compliance related to care plans; ensure residents unable to call for help are checked regularly; coordinate discharge planning and post-discharge procedures; assist with arrangements for transportation and family communication following death.
  • Safety and Sanitation:
    Monitor safety regulations and dress code adherence; participate in infection control and training; ensure availability of PPE; maintain clean and sanitary work areas; follow hand hygiene and fire safety drills; participate in incident reporting and hazardous condition procedures; ensure safe operation of nursing service equipment; maintain MSDS records and proper labeling.
  • Equipment and Supply Functions:
    Recommend equipment and supply needs; maintain adequate stock; implement safe operation procedures; ensure trained personnel operate equipment; minimize waste; ensure MSDS on file for hazardous chemicals.
  • Care Plan and Assessment Functions:
    Review and update care plans; ensure CNAs follow care plans; assist with MDS planning and RAPs/Triggers.
  • Budget and Planning:
    Report suspected fraud related to false billings or other financial irregularities.
  • Miscellaneous:
    Provide data to Quality Assurance & Assessment Committee as requested.
