Position: Pre-Admissions Testing Nurse – Selby Surgery – FT 1.0 (80 hrs biweekly)

Description

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Pre‑Admission Testing Nurse coordinates registration for patients requiring pre‑admission testing, including pre‑surgery testing for outpatient and same day surgery. The role upholds the MHS Standards of Excellence and maintains strict confidentiality at all times. Responsibilities include ensuring patient care meets safety and effectiveness standards, providing patient education, and collaborating with other disciplines.

  • Conducts perioperative phone screening of pre‑operative surgical patients and makes pre‑operative calls to provide arrival time and instructions.
  • Organizes and directs activities in accordance with nursing standards, TJC, Medicare, and all applicable federal, state, and local guidelines. May contact all patients prior to surgery to assess medical and medication history, review appropriateness of lab, x‑ray, EKG orders, and provide pre‑admission teaching.
  • Tracks issues that are trending from calls and develops action plans with follow‑up reports.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Current licensure in the State of Ohio as a Registered Nurse with 1–2 years of nursing experience in a hospital setting.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Maintains compliance with RQI requirements.

  • Ability to interact positively with physicians, patients, and families.
  • Positive attitude and professional appearance, promoting good public relations.
  • Knowledge of interview techniques and legal issues involved.
  • Excellent communication and teaching skills.
  • Good organizational habits.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change and strong knowledge base of surgical procedures and patient management.
  • Knowledge of Medicare regulations preferred.
Compensation Details

Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
