Job Summary
Essential employee located in the Facilities Management Department. May work non‑standard hours for on‑call, inclement weather or emergency activities.
Schedule:
6:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday‑Friday.
- Performs general maintenance and repair work on buildings, equipment, grounds, and related facilities with semi‑skilled manual work in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, masonry, custodial, or other maintenance projects.
- Assist in ensuring that operation, construction, and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and systems comply with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards; conduct maintenance inspections to identify potential problems, unsafe conditions, and needed repairs; initiate necessary corrective actions.
- Performs various plumbing tasks: troubleshoots plumbing problems, installs and repairs plumbing fixtures, clears and unblocks water lines and drains, repairs steam lines, toilets, sinks, faucets, drinking fountains, solders pipes, and repairs leaks.
- Performs various electrical tasks: troubleshoots electrical problems, installs electrical receptacles and switches, repairs electrical components, trips or replaces breakers, and replaces light bulbs and ballasts.
- Performs various tasks involving general building maintenance, carpentry, masonry or construction projects, including painting interior and exterior surfaces; concrete work, plaster applications, sheetrock placement; repair and replace floor/ceiling tile; inspect, install and repair roofs; install, adjust and repair doors and hardware; replace windows, doors, glass panes; lubricate hardware; perform locksmith duties; and related maintenance and repair activities.
- Determine amount of materials needed to complete projects, provide cost projections as requested, gather equipment, tools, parts, and supplies, monitor inventory levels, and order new or replacement materials as required.
- Participate in the setup and removal of tables, chairs, stages, etc. for daily meetings, classes, and special events.
- Responsible for purchasing construction and maintenance related items and accounting for delivery of related financial paperwork to administrative staff.
- Accountable for proper use of County‑issued credit card following all Purchasing guidelines, including upload of receipts, online signoff, and monthly reconciliation of the statement.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by previous experience in building maintenance and repair.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
Tasks require regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and may involve lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling moderately heavy objects and materials (20‑50 pounds) and occasionally heavier objects (up to 100 pounds).
Sensory RequirementsSome tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, taste, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental FactorsPerformance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, noise extremes, and electric currents.
