Job Description

Main Component Exchange (MCE) Technicians specialize in large correctives, safely executing main component exchanges and uptower repair services on wind turbines as directed by Project Manager. MCE Lead Technicians are responsible for directing their team’s day to day tasks in order to complete the project. MCE Leads are knowledgeable in rigging, crane calling, LOTO, standard and special tooling, etc. MCE Leads are strong communicators and are able to ensure their teams are properly assigned with tasks that meet their experience and provide instruction / coaching as needed.

As required, they assist in, dismantling, erecting, aligning, adjusting, and/or maintaining machinery and equipment according to installation manuals, work instructions, layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings. MCE technicians are assigned to multiple projects over a rotation period and are expected to travel to remote client sites as required.

Job Requirements

Job Type Seasonal

Location North America - Travel 100% on a rotational basis to wind farms throughout the U.S.

Rotation Pattern 6 weeks on 1 week off



Job Responsibilities

As a Main Component Exchange (MCE) Lead Technician, you will

  • Lead large component exchanges on Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs), to include blades, gearboxes, generators, main bearings, etc.
  • Work with site leadership to execute all contractual obligations and activities set forth with the customers daily, which can include any portion of the electrical, mechanical or balance-of-plant equipment on site.
  • Clearly communicate with site leadership and project management regarding project status, daily plans, end of day reports, etc.
  • Responsible for outlining each MCE team member with tasks and ensuring they are completed safely and with quality
  • MCE Leads are capable teachers and have a desire to see their team members develop
  • Perform repairs or replacements of mechanical, hydraulic and/or electrical components to correct malfunctions.
  • Conduct maintenance of equipment (cleaning, greasing, lubrication, etc.).
  • Lead and/or assist with other daily work activities, related to all areas of site operations, as directed by manager, with minimal supervision.
  • Coordinate with engineering support team when in need of additional troubleshooting/ diagnostic assistance.
  • Complete and maintain required company and client documentation and records, using computer-based service reporting tools and procedures.
  • Clean and organize tools, equipment, and work area including sweeping, mopping, wiping oil, grease, solvent spills.
  • Operate a motor vehicle safely and legally per the Audubon Employee Handbook and insurance requirements.
  • Maintain required training certifications for position held. These include at a minimum OSHA 10, NFPA 70E, GWO BST/BTT/ART, CPR/AED - First Aid.
  • Perform Torqueing/tensioning of multiple bolted connections in compliance with installation manuals and bolt torque specifications.
