The City of Marinette is seeking a detail‑oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our Finance Department. This position is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of bi‑weekly payroll for city employees, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and providing excellent service to staff.
Key Responsibilities- Process and audit bi‑weekly payroll for all city departments.
- Maintain employees’ records including wages, deductions, benefits, and taxes.
- Prepare payroll reports and ensure compliance with applicable laws and union contracts.
- Respond to payroll‑related inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
- Coordinate with HR and department heads on personnel changes.
- Assist with year‑end processing including W‑2s, W‑3, 1095‑Cs, and submit reports to state and federal agencies.
- Maintain confidentiality of all payroll and employee information.
The typical work schedule is 40 hours a week, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. Salary: The 2025 hourly pay for this position is $25.59 per hour, with step increases. The position is eligible for the annual COLA pending City Council approval.
Qualifications- High School diploma or equivalent; preferred an Associate’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
- 2+ years of payroll experience required.
- Knowledge of payroll laws and regulations.
- Experience with payroll software and accounting systems preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information.
