Maintenance Electrician

2nd Shift: 2:00pm - 10:00pm

Pay: $30 - $38 per hour

General Summary

Responsible for performing preventative/predictive maintenance, repairs, testing, installing and troubleshooting of plant facility equipment and systems in order to support company goals and objectives, as well as other related functions. This includes both electrical and mechanical work. Must have own essential tools.

Essential Functions
  • Perform emergency/unplanned electrical repairs of production equipment during production and perform planned electrical maintenance/repairs of various degrees on production equipment during the allotted machine service time.
  • Read and interpret equipment electrical schematics/manuals and provide sketches for blueprint revisions on electrical systems/equipment upgrades.
  • Perform preventative electrical maintenance duties, projects, and upgrades to wiring, conduit, and electronic control systems on required production equipment and/or plant facilities within the allotted time frame.
  • Perform some mechanic skills, but not limited to mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic troubleshooting, installing and repair of production equipment.
  • Use of electrical test equipment, measuring equipment (micrometers, dial calipers, Vernier calipers, depth mics, surface gages, dial indicators, etc.), use a variety of hand and power tools. Use of material handling equipment and mobile platforms.
  • Diagnose electrical problems, replace/repair electrical components, test and make adjustments as needed in order to correct the problem.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Replace faulty electrical equipment such as motors, relays, switches, circuit boards, wiring, controllers, etc.
  • Inspection of electrical systems, equipment, and other electrical components to identify potential safety hazards, defects/repair, and to ensure compliance with state and local codes.
  • Mechanical repairs of various degrees on all production equipment, and preventative maintenance duties on required production equipment and/or general manufacturing needs.
  • Use of engine lathes, vertical & horizontal mills, radial drill presses, surface & cylindrical grinders to make tooling, jigs, fixtures, gauging, and various types of maintenance machines needed – each machine requires various set-up knowledge to perform jobs adequately.
  • Fabrication needs require use of horizontal cut-off and vertical band saws, stick & wire-feed welding, gas torches, cutting and heating. Also pedestal and hand grinders.
  • Changing bearings & oil seals, and rebuilding gear boxes requires hydraulic presses and various set-ups.
  • Training/directing of other employees in journeyman apprenticeship program.
Secondary Functions
  • Communication with management about daily activities/problems.
  • Comply with all company procedures and policies, this includes OSHA safety/health and environmental laws/requirements.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work area(s).
  • Assist in plant spill control methods.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge/understanding of hand and power tools.
  • Understanding of local and state building codes.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems and ability to identify technical malfunctions in electrical equipment/systems.
  • Must follow strict safety protocols due to exposure to high voltage areas/environments.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills – ability to communicate effectively with all levels of authority.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently and in a team environment when needed.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.
  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements with minimal interruption of normal work flow.
Physical Demands
  • Requires prolonged sitting, standing, bending, stooping and stretching.
  • Requires the ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Requires exposure to machines and chemicals.
  • Requires eye‑hand coordination, manual dexterity and a normal range of hearing and vision (with or without correction).
Education and Experience
  • Minimum 5 years experience as maintenance technician or electrical maintenance.
  • Journeyman Maintenance Technician or Industrial Electrician preferred.
