The SS Welder Operator reports to the Stainless Steel (SS) Unit Production Supervisor. Using a TIG‑welding process (by machine) this person welds stainless steel cylinders and is trained to perform hand‑weld repairs. In addition to operating the welding equipment, the person assists with the responsibilities of a Machine Operator I. The company reserves the right to rotate employees to other departments or work assignments within the organization as needed based on skill set, production needs, etc.
HowYou Will Do It
- Operate highly complex machinery used in the production process. From prints, adjust and TIG‑weld stainless steel shells and components.
- Perform semi‑complex machine set‑ups; load welder with component parts to be welded.
- Ensure machines are operating at required capacity and that production requirements are met.
- Monitor the performance of equipment; identify, troubleshoot, and resolve problems to maintain efficient operations.
- Observe machine operation to verify accuracy of machine settings and to detect malfunctions or out‑of‑tolerance production. Monitor controls of welder (temp, cycle time, amps‑volts, etc.).
- Recognize process upset; both special and common cause, and notify the appropriate person.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining scorecards, Gemba Boards, etc., so performance problems can be identified and resolved.
- Assist maintenance team in basic troubleshooting and equipment malfunctioning diagnostics.
- Maintain equipment and perform preventive maintenance; notify Group Leader/Maintenance personnel if welding machine malfunctions.
- Visually inspect welds to assure that blueprints, code and quality standards are met.
- Support the training and development of peers within the organization.
- Perform assembly, packaging, housekeeping and other related duties as may be assigned by the Group Leader or supervisor.
Must be 18 years of age and have a HS Diploma or equivalent. Must have reading, writing and simple math skills. Must be able to read blueprints. Must have previous experience working as a Machine Operator I within Stainless Steel. Must have welding experience and knowledge of TIG welding as demonstrated by passing a hands‑on competency test; vocational school coursework is helpful.

- Must have lock‑out tags.
- Attend and participate in all hazardous and non‑hazardous waste trainings.
- Ability to recognize chemical hazardous labels.
- Spill management and clean‑up.
- Air shutoff locations.
- Capability to follow satellite accumulation rules and requirements.
- Proficiency to recognize hazardous wastes in your area and manage properly.
Training rate: $23.16; certified rate: $25.40. (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
